Hunt Family Creates Permanent Endowment of $750,000 for The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army of Northwest Arkansas, serving Benton, Carroll, Madison, and Washington Counties is very grateful to The Hunt Family for establishing a permanent $750,000 endowment. The gift will support sheltering homeless individuals and families in Northwest Arkansas. Annual income generated by the endowment will be used for housing-focused shelter programs.
This restricted endowment established at Arkansas Community Foundation will allow The Salvation Army to continue supporting staff salaries, training, and continuing education, while allowing flexibility in purchasing equipment and/or materials to continuously keep The Salvation Army shelters in high functioning and working order. This critical support will enable The Salvation Army to provide high quality services to the most vulnerable clients, and serve as the best place for respite care for those in the community that need support to obtain housing.

In addition to the endowment, an additional $250,000 was given by Jane Hunt to support growing capacity of staff and resources in the Northwest Arkansas Area Command headquarters and Fayetteville shelter. This support will enable The Salvation Army to retain the most highly trained case workers which will benefit The Salvation Army’s clients in achieving the goal of permanent housing.
In 2021, The Salvation Army served thousands of community members through a wide array of programs and services including 95,280 meals and 21,035 nights of lodging for men, women and children in crisis situations. The shelter offers a safe place, a hot shower and a clean bed, nutritious food, counseling and life skills. Other service programs include case management and more than $166,000 in financial assistance for rent utilities, prescriptions, bus fares and more.

These funds will allow us to meet the growing needs of the community for those at most risk in Northwest Arkansas.
